Andalucian Self Catering Accommodation - Las Nuevas Alora
Surrounding Area
Las Nuevas provides an ideal base from which to explore local places of interest.
Walk or drive on past Las Nuevas for about a mile and you come to a small chapel - Ermita de Las Cruces. This is the highest point in this area where you can enjoy fantastic views towards El Chorro, El Torcal, Malaga and the sea.
The Lakes at Garganta del Chorro are to be found 40 minutes drive from Las Nuevas through some lovely countryside. Supporting a whole host of wildlife, they make an idyllic spot for fishing, swimming or boating. The sheer cliffs at El Chorro offer a world-class location for climbing, caving and other outdoor pursuits.
Malaga is a lively city centred around a busy port. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, historical buildings and typical Tavernas. The Cathedral, the Alcazaba and the Picasso Museum are all well worth a visit. The new town has many bars, restaurants and some great shopping.
The Costa del Sol stretches for 160 kilometres to the east and west of Malaga. It has miles of beaches catering for sun soakers, watersports enthusiasts, naturists and celebrity spotters, and enthusiasts will know that you are never far away from a golf course.
A little further afield you can visit ... Ronda with it's spectacular bridge over the river connecting the medieval and 18th century parts of the town ... Granada, most famous for the Alhambra palaces and gardens, offers an insight into Spain's Moorish heritage ...Sierra Nevada is Spain's highest mountain range (3,482 m) and is situated within a two and a half hour drive of Las Nuevas. The skiing season runs from December until spring and day trips can be arranged during your stay with us. In the summer and autumn months the area is ideal for walking, hiking, cycling and climbing...Sevilla, the capital of Andalucia, lies west of Las Nuevas, it is one of the most romantic cities in Spain and offers a wonderful world of fiestas, flamenco, ancient streets lined with orange trees, flower-filled balconies and tapas bars...Cordoba, the Mezquita is one of the most magnificent of all Islamic buildings with it's spectacular rows of arches in red brick and white stone.
Bird Watching around Las Nuevas
"Bird Watching from Las Nuevas is fascinating. Short-toed eagles regularly drift overhead or soar on nearby thermals. Griffon vultures occasionally join them from the El Chorro gorge on the other side of the Guadalhorce valley. In Spring and early summer, the hills are teeming with songbirds, Sardinian warbler, Stonechat, Corn Bunting and Crested Lark are abundant, flitting between the almond trees, while from every small valley bottom rises the beautiful song of the Nightingale. Patience should be rewarded by sightings of the vivid yellow of a male Golen Oriole, Azure-Winged Magpie, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo, Hoopoe and Pied Wheatear, or even the elusive Bee-eater. At night, the curious call of the Scops owl drifts up to the courtyard and Nightjars can be heard churring from afar. All day long swallows are abundant in the skies, swooping and arcing in search of insects.
Don't forget your binoculars!"
